Responsible Conduct of Research – Ethics Modules Available for Faculty

Recognizing the need faculty have for providing guidance in research ethics to students, GTRC and the Office of Research Compliance have arranged access to an excellent online resource. The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) modules, derived from courses taught by Dr. Michael Kalichman at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and Dr. Francis Macrina at Virginia Commonwealth University, are available through Georgia Tech’s membership in the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.

Texts, readings, and other instructional materials are provided on the topics of Research Misconduct, Data Management, Use of Animal Subjects, Use of Human Subjects, Conflicts of Interest and Commitment, Authorship, Publication and Peer Review, and Collaboration and Mentoring.

Designed for Internet use, the RCR modules generally require that students spend more time reading than they would in a didactic course. Topic may be covered by text on the website, assigned or recommended readings, written assignments, and email discussion groups, which are a significant component of the modules.

Faculty wishing to utilize this resource can gain access after reading and agreeing to the terms of use. In order to gain access to the site you will need your GT Account ID and Kerberos password. Users will be required to honor the Terms of Use, including copyright. The RCR modules are only accessible by current GT faculty, staff and students.
