What else should I consider?
Some institutes limit the increase in direct costs that can be requested in a renewal application. Please review institute guidelines before preparing budgets.
- Competing applications with Direct Costs of $250,000 or less must be submitted according to the NIH Modular Grant Application Guidelines.
- Applications with Direct Costs exceeding $500,000 in any year require approval from an NIH Institute or Center BEFORE submission. Facilities & Administrative Costs associated with subcontracts are not included in the $500,000 limit. This approval must be sought at least six (6) weeks prior to the submission date. See NIH Guide Notice NOT-OD-02-004 and NOT-OD-17-005.html for details.
