About IRB

Welcome to the web site for Georgia Tech’s Institutional Review Board!

Georgia Tech is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects of research conducted on the campus or sponsored by the Institute, regardless of source of funding. Georgia Tech subscribes to the basic ethical principles that should underlie the conduct of biomedical, social, and behavioral research involving human subjects as set forth in the “Belmont Report.”

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is charged with ensuring that the rights and welfare of human subjects are protected by reviewing projects and activities at Georgia Tech that involve human subjects. The IRB has the responsibility and authority to review, approve, disapprove, or require changes in research activities involving human subjects. All research activities involving human subjects must be reviewed by Georgia Tech’s Institutional Review Board. This policy applies to all faculty, staff, and student projects, regardless of whether the project is funded externally, internally, or receives no funding support.
